To eat flowers/and not to be afraid

I sweat to look this good

Fitness is a part of my life. I was born petite, but as I have gotten older, I change my lifestyle more and more to make sure I stay healthy and active. It doesn’t necessarily mean thin, but it does mean watching what I eat and exercising more days of the week than not.

Something I’ve done more recently is switch from eating meat to only eating seafood. Eliminating poultry, pork, and beef has really changed the way I look at food. I have been preparing my own meals since I was in high school, but since changing my diet I have really been forced to reevaluate what food is meant to do for me. Now, at every meal I try and make sure that I have protein, veggies, whole grains, and fruit. It sounds stupid, but it works!

Lately I’ve been training for races. My roommate Kiki got me into doing these 5Ks and 10Ks throughout the year. Although I have to travel for work and that limits my schedule, I still have been able to do three or four a year. This May I am trying to work up to a half marathon. Right now I am at 7 miles, but I am worried because my knee is giving me some problems. It’s not consistent enough pain to stop, but it does cause me a bit of concern.

The other thing I try to do at least once or twice a week is do a core workout and lift weights. I don’t lift very much, and I admit I prefer doing a core workout, but I think creating more muscle can only be good for me. Muscle is what burns fat, so I want to do everything I can to make sure my body has all of the muscles, calcium, and iron it needs to burn fat and function normally.

The last thing that I love the most about my healthy lifestyle is sleeping. I can sleep like nobody’s business. While it does concern me that I might sleep too much, I also know that sleep is an important part of your body’s recovery period. A lot of times when I don’t get enough sleep, I overeat, which is not uncommon.
